AMON AMARTH Answers Fan-Submitted Questions
July 17, 2008Swedish Viking metallers AMON AMARTH have answered a number of fan-submitted questions via their MySpace page regarding the writing and recording process for the band's new album, "Twilight Of The Thunder God". A couple of excerpts follow.
Q: What previous AMON AMARTH album does the new one sound like the most?
A: Very hard for us to say, and people will probably think differently but to us it feels like a natural step after "With Oden On Our Side". Maybe some more old-school stuff thrown in too.
Q: How long did it take you guys to make the album?
A: We spent January-April putting the songs together, we worked from 9-10 in the morning until around 3 pm in the afternoon, five days a week. We recorded the album in May-June, working from 8 in the morning until 7pm. So approximately 6 months.
Q: I was wondering how you came up with the lyrics and song titles for this album? Was it hard? What was the most challenging song to do?
A: Actually the lyrics wasn't that difficult to come up with this time, I [Johan Hegg] had a few basic ideas that I wanted to work with from the start and I came up with more stuff as we were writing the songs. As a matter of fact I ended up with more lyrical ideas than we had songs, so now I have a head start for next album. To find the right titles on the other hand was more difficult. Then again I've never been very good at finding titles. I don't think any song was more challanging than the other really. To find the right title for "Where Is Your God?" was probably the toughest, as we had a great title for the lyrics, but it didn't suit the actual song that well. We needed a title that was more aggressive.
